COLORS OF YOU (RMX) FEAT. ZAXAI

Colors_Art_01.jpg

I teamed up with my brother, ZAXAI, on what came about as a simple suggestion based on the vibes to one of my favorite Talib Kweli songs, "Colors Of You" feat. Mike Posner produced by the legendary J. Dilla, off of his Gravitas album.

WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW and feel free to share your thoughts in the comment box. Please Like, Share, Follow or tell a friend if you like what you see/hear, I appreciate the support! Let's build!

Give ZAXAI a follow, the man is going to do big things in 2018 and i'm glad to be working with him.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own any rights to the original production of the song remixed. VERSE 1 – JOAQUIN RIVS

I haven’t seen you in a while, I wonder how you doing
I've tried to play it off but then again who am I fooling?
things been kinda quiet since the time that we were fluent
with each other’s body language and the tongue that we were using

I find myself reflecting bout it every single time
letting loose with the pen as I write between the lines
remembering the times we let our bodies intertwine
smashing, knocking boots repeatedly like vines

you opened up to me… pretty unapologetically,
letting me… peak into your soul without telepathy
inspired me poetically, tailored every word strategically
to cater to the Muse and build upon the chemistry

we compliment each other well, perfect for the canvas
complexions of our the tones add more values to the palette
but nothing like the conversations that became a habit
and brought a world of color to the life that I was havin’

CHORUS – ZAXAI

Colors of you… (of you, of you, of you, of you)
ba-da-da-da-daaaaa
(your colors be confusing me, baby girl you’re losing me)

Colors of you…(of you, of you, of you, of you)
(Eyo your colors be confusing me, baby girl you’re losing me)

VERSE 2 – JOAQUIN RIVS

I promised I would comfort you through thick and thin despite the sins
with nothing but compassion, providing you satisfaction
Actin’ on action not lacking a fraction of passion,
Maximizin’ my efforts to building in similar fashion

The architect of memories, blueprint to my pedigree
Showered u with compliments to flourish more the chemistry
Lil’ bit by lil’ bit, became more than my specialty
Locked within these bars playing pleasantly like a melodies

you were Instrumental to the words I spoke
I try to tell it through raw lyrics and melodic flows
from the minute that I saw you “Tu era Mi Amor”
witcha silhouette exotic from a foreign coast

Without a doubt she had that butter love
but what was Next was strictly unexpected, truly never expected
suddenly her colors started fading from my perspective
it wasn’t like her not to get back to my calls or texts

there I was, thinking the worst, until I got in touch
undertones were muted man she wasn’t saying much
I knew where this was going and I wasn’t gonna rush
sure enough she said she needed time while clearly giving up

I won’t accept the blame for something so unexplainable
coming out the blue wit the bull, so unbelievable
at the same time using the magic we had
to pull a disappearing act and now she’s nothing but a throwback

CHORUS – ZAXAI

Colors of you… (of you, of you, of you, of you)
ba-da-da-da-daaaaa
(your colors be confusing me, baby girl you’re losing me)

Colors of you…
(Eyo your colors be confusing me, baby girl you’re losing me)

VERSE 3 – ZAXAI

These colors of you, got me confused
nothing I do can’t seem to get through to you
These dark shades of blue, red, green, maroon
change with the wind, like tides to the moon

So it’s time, to let go, let go of you
So it’s time, to let go, let go of you
Mrs. Blue… Red, Green, Maroon

Joaquin Jumps on Ibeyi's Stranger/Lover

ibeyi_joaquin_rivs_remix_artwork

NEW MUSIC! I decided to remix one of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite bands, the wonderful Cuban/French twins of IBEYI. I've been listening to IBEYI's music for quiet some time now and i'm glad I was able to catch them perform live this past summer in Central Park, NYC. One of the songs that resonated with me the most in terms of the vibes and production, off of their self-titled debut album, was Stranger/Lover (check out their video here). Ever since I heard it live, i've been flirting with the idea of writing a verse to it and it wasn't until I heard Mark Ronson's Re-Fix that I decided to finally sit down and do something cool with it. Peep the track below and let me know what you think. Hopefully the twins get to listen to it! Enjoy!

DISCLAIMER: I do not own any rights to the original production of the songs remixed. This is only the result of creative expression and appreciation for the music created by IBEYI and Mark Ronson, who inspired me to write to this particular track. No copyright infringement is intended whatsoever.

Checkout the lyrics to my verses below and please support the wonderful music IBEYI is making.

VERSE 1

let’s talk about it, I ain’t here to play the victim but...
things just ain’t the same we lost the rhythm and uh...
pointing fingers ain’t gone fix this
not even with the strings we used to pull each other’s nerves with

listen, a romance that was complex
back and forth between us led to conflicts
if we had a problem should’ve tackled it in tandem
without throwing temper tantrums and not goin’ off on tangents

but we’re holding on to lust,
hanging by threads that were devoured by the stress
we break up then we make up just to break up again
shit, we running round in circles putting karma to shame

the love that kept the fire burning started to fade
wishing we could take it back to the first days
when we were perfect strangers from around the way
and soon became the lovers that we’re trying to save

VERSE 2

we built it,
tried to save it
but destroyed it,
so what’s next?

now I don’t wanna act like i’m quick to move on
but i’ma get my two step and my drink on
bust a couple moves try to get my groove on
catch a brand new beginning right before the break a dawn

so i’ma hit the fellas up, get the squad lit
hit the club running like I never missed a beat
get chu off the mind for a bit, i’ll admit that
by the time i’m done it won’t be feelin’ like a guilt trip

tho the status might’ve changed
just know that no love been lost, and respect still there
as we go our separate ways and we dance into the light
i’m at ease knowing that we tried to keep it all alive AIGHT!!
